It wasn’t a surprise that a new breakfast and lunch place was opening at the Jan van Eyckplein after their intensive marketing campaign on social media. Everyday there was a novelty. Since last week everything is hatched out and the bird came out of the egg… Blackbird is the name, you will find the black bird … Continued

Diligence***, correct Flemish kitchen

You can find Restaurant Diligence on the corner of the Hoogstraat with the Mallebergplaats. It is recently taken over. There used to be a lot of regular customers who came here for lunch. The new owners chose to open it at night. The kitchen is open until midnight, so even night birds can alight. The interior … Continued

Sforno****, a flying start

On the Sasplein, between the Dampoortbridges, Sforno opened this week, an Italian restaurant. The corner house is fully renovated, the facade is beautifully painted. In the inside, there’s a big pizza oven that catches the eye when you enter. The frames on the wall with Italian scenes are lovely as well.

Right across the V-market in the Sint Pieterszuidstraat you will find Le Staff. A no nonsense restaurant that is only open during the week. There’s a terrace in the front and in the back, and there’s a playground. A lot of people that are working in the neighbourhood are taking lunch here.

De Twijfelaar***, without any doubt

It’s not always easy to find a snack on a Sunday afternoon. For most of us, this is the perfect day for a copious lunch. We went through our list and ended up at De Twijfelaar, in the Eekhoutstraat. It was taken over more than a year ago by a young couple. We noticed the … Continued

Marco Polo Noodles***, fresh and tasty

A while ago, in the Katelijnestraat, a noodle bar opened. We didn’t have one in Bruges so far, and it is a lovely alternative to the large amount of friteries that are recently coming out of nowhere. The name is Marco Polo, referring to the explorer who visited China and Mongolia. Two Chinese ladies are … Continued

Floris***, new restaurant in Sint Andries

Turning a painter shop into a restaurant is not done in one two three. Lieven Musschoot arranged a light interior with a lot of white wood and black accents. The chef donated its name to the place, Floris. The building was fully stripped, and the result is well-done. You immediately notice the large half open … Continued

Yesterday, across the Braambergstraat, “Jilles“ opened, a new hamburger restaurant. In Ghent there’s been one open for a while, in Bruges they decided to go for the lovely house where Yellow, the pop-up of Hertog Jan used to be. De Kromme Watergang*****, the best of the best!

Every year we give each other an extra treat for our birthday. Searching an original place is an experience on itself, and it’s always great when the birthday boy/girl tries to guess the place where we will be going. At the end of July, Annemieke turned one year older, and my eye fell on De Kromme … Continued
